Celebrating National Holistic Therapy Day in Jersey City

Holistic Therapy Day, celebrated annually on July 26, honors the approach that treats the human body as a unified entity, embracing the connection between the mind, body, and soul. By incorporating practices like meditation, mindfulness, yoga, sound therapy, and other holistic methods into your life, you can experience many positive benefits. In Jersey City, numerous places offer opportunities to embark on your holistic therapy journey and find a harmonious balance. Check out the list below to celebrate this day, and consider integrating one or more of these practices into your daily routine!

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a widespread traditional Chinese medical practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. It is believed that there are pathways, called meridians, through which the body’s vital energy, called Qi, flows. A licensed practitioner will place the needles in specific pressure points for up to half an hour while you relax. This practice is commonly used to address various health conditions, from pain management to stress and allergies. There are many great acupunctures here in Jersey City. EKAH in Jersey City Heights, Dr. Erin Kumpf believes in and respects that we all have a powerful healing intelligence but that many people have lost touch with this power.  She works with each patient to help them reconnect to their inner healing wisdom, help people live with less or no pain, rekindle their joy, and live meaningfully. Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy uses essential oils for therapeutic benefits. Certain smells may bring you calm during a moment of stress or help you breathe better. You can get an essential oil diffuser to start your aromatherapy journey, harness the different scents, and see how they can impact your emotions and overall well-being. Always consult a doctor before using essential oils to ensure you are not allergic to any oils.

Incorporating Herbal Teas

Herbal teas are essential to holistic therapy as they improve health and well-being. Different herbs have different healing properties, allowing you to explore what you want to achieve. In Jersey City, we have an excellent shop called Raine & River with everything you need to get into an apothecary. The shop provides remedies, including tinctures, salves, powders, and elixirs, made with herbs that the owner sources and prepares herself fresh on-site. Check out our spotlight article on this store to learn more.

Journaling

Incorporating journaling into your daily routine, whether waking up in the morning or having it as the last thing you do before bed, can help bring clarity to your life and promote well-being. It is a great habit to write down your thoughts, reflections, feelings, what you are grateful for, or whatever comes to your mind. Journaling is a form of releasing your emotions and learning to process your thoughts. It is an excellent tool for self-healing and discovery.

Massages

Who doesn’t love a massage? A great way to relieve pain and connect you to the mind, body, and soul. When getting a massage, you can be mindful of the sensations you feel throughout your body as you release stress and pain. There are many types of massages, and some places will curate a massage specific to your concerns!

Meditation

Meditation is an excellent holistic therapy that can enhance your well-being by fostering inner tranquility and harmony. You can practice it anywhere once you become accustomed to the techniques. Develop your mindfulness and concentration skills by beginning with just five minutes of meditation. As you progress, you’ll find it easier to extend your sessions. You can use many apps to start your meditation journey, such as the Calm app.

Reiki

Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century. “Rei” means “universal” or “spiritual,” and “Ki” refers to energy flowing through all living beings. Reiki is a practice that helps physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The practice involves transferring healing power from the Reiki practitioner’s hand to the person’s body. People who have practiced Reiki have experienced pain relief, improvement in sleep, and stress management.

Sound Therapy

Sound therapy is a great way to start if you are new to meditation. They are often led in a group setting and use instruments such as singing bowls which are either metal or crystal, gongs, chimes, drums, and tuning forks which all emit specific frequencies when struck. The sounds help quiet the mind and promote peace and well-being.

Yoga

Yoga is an ancient practice that involves physical poses, concentration, and deep breathing to connect the mind and the body. You can start your yoga practice outdoors in Jersey City by participating in Yoga in the Park. Several parks offer seasonal outdoor classes from May through October. You can find the Meraki Yoga schedule every Saturday in Pershing Field Park here. Riverview and Washington Park also offer yoga on weekends. All classes are beginner-level and are great for building a sense of community which adds to your holistic therapy practices!
