Trips Leaving from Newark Penn Station:

Trenton, NJ (2h*)

Visit the capital city of the Garden State–and briefly the capital of the United States in 1784–Trenton. This city is brimming with fascinating history that would interest anyone that walks its streets. Visit the New Jersey State Museum and Old Barracks Museum to learn more about New Jersey state history. If you want to sniff out the history yourself, the numerous historic state edifices will leave you in awe. This city has a lot to offer history lovers and other explorers. Sports fans can enjoy minor league baseball and hockey games while art enthusiasts have plenty of opportunities to explore Trenton’s art galleries.

Philadelphia, PA (2h*)

Philadelphia is a city brimming with rich cultural history and significance, and it is only a couple of hours away. This large city holds many of America’s most treasured artifacts, including: the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and sites of the American Revolutionary. This city is filled with outstanding art museums, the oldest and largest public markets in America, an amazing zoo, and so much more. So while you’re there, run the Rocky steps, sing the iconic theme song from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, eat a cheese steak, and enjoy your time in this great city.

Asbury Park, NJ (3h*)

Asbury Park is a small seaside city located on New Jersey’s coast. Known for the sandy shore and beachfront boardwalk, this city is the perfect destination for a little summer fun. The city’s live music venues attracts heavy hitters such as Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, as well as a multitude of other talented music acts. The Silverball Museum Arcade will give a little insight to our gaming past while entertaining anyone that walks through its doors. With fantastic food, eclectic boutiques, family fun, and one of the best nightlife scenes in the state, there is so much to offer everyone.

Milford, CT (3h30min*)

Milford is a “small city with a big heart!” While strolling through the streets, you get a real small town feel brimming with charm and history. The high quality craft shows, diverse festivals, and events make Milford a real destination. Hit one of the 20 downtown restaurants that will satisfy any foodie. Visit Silver Sands State Park and Charles Island to enjoy fishing, swimming, and birdwatching. The Boothe Memorial Park offers 1800s era buildings, gardens, & museums. The recreational are and ponds in Osbornedale State Park will offer you plenty of space to roam or relax.

Take that one stop to 42nd St-Port Authority/Time Square, and then transfer to either the 7 (purple line) or S (gray line) to travel across town to 42nd St-Grand Central. There you will be able to connect to the Amtrak train of your choosing. If you have a little more time on your hands, you can easily walk from the 33rd St. PATH stop to Grand Central Station in about 15-20 minutes.  

 

New Haven, CT (3h30min*)

New Haven is a coastal city in Connecticut that is home to the Ivy League school Yale University. This college town is rich with culture, culinary experiences, and historic attractions. New Haven is packed with a diverse collection of arts and antiquities. The Beinecke Library contains 600,000 rare volumes, including one of the last Gutenberg Bibles. Yale University has three museums that are a must see while in this city. Bridgeport is a historic seaport city in Connecticut with a lot to offer. Located just 60 miles from Manhattan, it makes it the perfect day getaway if you are looking for a relaxing, easy-going time in New England. Visit the only zoo in Connecticut–the Beardsley Zoo. Visit Seaside Part, which is deemed the best waterfront in the city. Enjoy the art of the city at the Housatonic Museum of Art where you can see both famous and student works. See some of the most iconic theatre productions at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre. There is so much packed into this little New England city, and you are sure to find something that is perfect for you.

Greenwich, CT (2h*)

If you are looking to experience a little luxury, Greenwich is the perfect town to visit. Explore art and science at the Bruce Museum; find some luxury goods on Greenwich Avenue; enjoy the hiking trails of the Audubon Center. Greenwich also offers a lot for the history buff, so be sure to stop by the Bush-Holley House and Putnam Cottage for a taste of 18th-century New England. The neighborhoods within the town are a sight to see itself, so take a stroll and behold the beautiful victorian-esque mansions that line the blocks. If you want to extend your stay, there are numerous luxury bed and breakfast accommodation within the town. Southampton is a town in Long Island included in the shoreline prominently known as The Hamptons. During the summer, you’ll be able to enjoy the sandy beaches and the occasional celebrity sighting that will make your trip a little more exciting. Cooper’s Beach is consistently ranked as one of American’s best public beaches for its immaculate sand, great waves, and grass-covered dunes. During the colder months, Southampton offers museums, luxury shopping, and fine dining for your enjoyment. The Southampton Arts Center also holds fun events–art exhibitions, courtyard concerts, outdoor movies, and much more–that provide so many fun options for you and your family.

Montauk, NY (5h*)

Montauk is a village in Long Island known for its beaches and amazing watersport locations. There, fishing, beachcombing, kayaking, and surfing is in abundance. During the Summer season, live music can be heard from most of the local pubs and cafes. You can visit the historic Montauk Point Lighthouse to see amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean. If you want to get out onto the water, visit the Montauk Yacht Club to enjoy the luxurious marina, great seafood, and perhaps a quick trip out onto the Atlantic. During the colder months, Montauk still has a lot to offer its visitors. It is beautifully serene, and provides a nice quiet escape for those who need it.

Freeport is a popular resort village located on Long Island just a couple hours outside of Manhattan. The Nautical Mile is a popular hub that offers restaurants, clam bars, seafood shacks, and oftentimes live music. There, you can let your hair down and enjoy time with family and friends. BrewSA Brewing Company is a great landmark where you can meet the friendly staff, enjoy a great selection of beers, and enjoy a warm and welcoming atmosphere. If you are looking to stimulate your brain, visit the Freeport Memorial Library. They offer so much more than an impressive collection of books; the library also offers music, tours, exhibits, and an assortment of other activities. This small town packs a big punch, and you will surely enjoy your time there.

Port Washington, NY (1h45min*)

Located on the North Shore of Long Island, Port Washington is a great town where you can live out your Great Gatsby dreams and so much more. You can take a short sailing lesson at the Port Sailing School and take charge on your own little aquatic adventure. If you are travelling with family, stop by Blumenfeld Family Park to enjoy the play areas, copious amounts of greenery, and a splash pad. Lastly, be sure to stop by the Sands Point Preserve–the main inspiration for F. Scott Fitzgerald while he was writing The Great Gatsby. Channel your inner Daisy or Jay and explore the large estate and all it has to offer.

Point Pleasant is a borough of Ocean County known for its annual Seafood Festival and so much more. In the summer, the famous Point Pleasant boardwalk comes alive. There, you can find arcades, food, rides, and gift shops. The carnival-esque vibe will have you absolutely glee ridden, and feeling like a kid again. There is also an aquarium located on the north end of the boardwalk where you can see amazing aquatic species. Though nice all year round, the best time to go is in September so you can attend the Pleasant Beach, NJ Festival of the Sea, a perfect way to bring this summer to an end. The festival offers an impressive collection of food, craft vendors, and entertainment. So visit Point Pleasant and enjoy some great food, great weather, and create great experiences.
